I have been thinking about the concept of smart cities and how they can be enabled. What makes a city "smart"? What goes into creating an urban agglomeration which is aligned to the needs of the modern world, while being sensitive to the requirements of its citizens? I see cities as extensions of megaprojects and this is what's driving the thought process for what I want to tell the world about next.

Ali is Chairman of Global FM, formed in 2006 with the coming together of leading FM Associations to collaborate and further common objectives. Global FM focuses on promoting Facilities Management and on furthering the understanding of FM.
